Having successfully returned from his latest global-trotting adventure, Charley Boorman will be appearing on the BMW Motorrad stand on 23 November at this year’s International Motorcycle Show.
Following the success of the Long Way Round Charley and fellow bike enthusiast Ewan McGregor recently completed a second challenge, the Long Way Down, this time riding 15,000 miles from John O’Groats, Scotland to Cape Town, South Africa on behalf of their favoured charity UNICEF.
The dynamic duo rode from the Northern tip of Scotland to the Southern reaches of South Africa on two BMW R 1200 GS Adventures. Covering some of the toughest terrain in the world they encountered sand storms in the desert, muddy tracks and endless miles of rubble.
On 23 November Charley will be appearing as an ambassador of the International Motorcycle Show, taking place at the NEC, Birmingham, between 23 November and 2 December. In addition to opening the show Charley will be available for autographs and signings of the book ‘Long Way Down’, which documents his and Ewan’s travels through Europe and Africa.
BMW Motorrad will also be proudly displaying Charley’s trusty R 1200 GS on the BMW stand situated in Hall 1, stand 1E30. The bike, which covered more than 15,000 miles, was praised by Charley for its reliability and durability, two attributes that the R 1200 GS Adventure is renowned for.
Charley commented, “I’m a great fan of BMW motorcycles, and the R 1200 GS Adventure performed very well under the tough conditions. The terrain we covered was extremely challenging and varied enormously from country to country, but the bikes stood up to the challenge and handled the journey well. The GS proved sturdy and reliable, and put up with the worst that Ewan and I could throw at it. The bikes completed this incredible journey without any major problems, what more can I say.”
