GS Trophy rider James Berrill28.02.2016
The wait is finally over for the competitors, the organisers and the fans following around the world, because the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2016 is now officially underway!
Some 57 riders representing 25 nations from around the world - together with 21 embedded journalists - will compete in a week of adventure riding, special tests and teamwork challenges. It's a week that will also be about experiencing life in the rain forests of the hilly 'Golden Triangle' region in Thailand's Chiang Mai province, connecting with the natural world and celebrating the international brotherhood of adventure motorcycling that's so closely associated to the BMW R 1200 GS. We're very excited about this year's GS Trophy because one of our customers is riding in it! James Berrill has been a customer at Wollaston for years so we're cheering him on from the UK!
We thought it'd be great to keep in touch with James along the way to get some inside info on what's happening and to share his experiences. Before James left for Thailand we had a quick chat with him and here's what we found out...
Name: James Berrill
Where are you from? Bedford
How long have you been riding for? I first rode a bike off road at the age of 13.
Is this your first GS trophy? This is the first time I've ever entered anything like this on a big bike. I have previously ridden locally in Motocross Enduro series over the years though.
Have you been to Thailand before? No never so really looking forward to it and what a way to see it!
What are you looking forward to most? Winning!! Being part of the team and representing BMW for the UK.
What are you least looking forward to? Being away from my Family but once I'm there, I don't think I'll like the heat as there's reports of the temperature being 35-40 C! I'm also not looking forward to seeing any spiders; I'm certainly not a big fan of spiders!!
What bike will you riding? A 2016 BMW R1200GS prepared with off road accessories.
James is going to be sending us regular blog entries so stay tuned to hear all the inside info on the event.
GOOD LUCK JAMES!!
